- Scatec and Lesotho Govt. sign PPA for solar deployment in Lesotho
- It will be the first-ever utility-scale solar project in the region.
The renewable energy performance platform and equity sponsors -Scatec, Norfund, One-power Lesotho, Izuba Energy and Lesotho Pension Fund will collaboratively sponsor the 20MW solar PV project in Lesotho.
Lesotho, a small landlocked country situated within the borders of South Africa, is endowed with renewable energy resources. However, there has been little or no utilisation of these resources. The country has one of the world’s least electrification access, with only 10 per cent of citizens living with electricity in rural areas and 50 per cent in urban regions.
The 20MW solar plant will increase Lesotho’s installed generation capacity by 30 per cent, providing citizens with affordable and sustainable energy.
