Scatec, Partners to Deploy Green Hydrogen Project in Egypt

  • Scatec and partners receive approval to deploy a green hydrogen facility in Egypt.
  • Egypt authorities plan towards COP27 summit.

Norwegian renewable power producer Scatec and its partners have received government approval for a green hydrogen plant that will be built in Egypt.

The Egyptian Cabinet on Thursday approved the request made by Scatec and its partners — local construction company Orascom and The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE),  to speed up the implementation of the project ahead of the COP27 summit that will take place in the Arab country in November.

The partners plan to source electricity from the grid only in the initial stage of the project until they build their own renewables capacity. As soon as their green power plant goes online, it will feed into the grid the quantity of electricity that was consumed for the production of hydrogen before its commissioning.
