Schneider Pushes Green Infrastructure for AI Adoption in Nigeria

  • Schneider Electric said Nigeria can expand AI adoption sustainably by embracing localised, renewable, and hybrid power solutions.
  • It urged businesses to deploy AI-ready, energy-efficient infrastructure to balance digital growth with a stable power supply.

Schneider Electric has urged Nigeria to adopt smarter, decentralised power solutions to sustain its rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) without worsening its fragile energy situation.

The global energy management and automation company made the call in a statement on Thursday, September 11. It stressed that Nigeria’s digital transformation must balance innovation with sustainability as AI workloads increase across healthcare, agriculture, education, and manufacturing.

Schneider Electric said AI, like earlier technological revolutions such as personal computers and smartphones, becomes more efficient and affordable with wider adoption. It noted that most processing now takes place at the edge, within local data centres, smart buildings, and factories, reducing reliance on centralised facilities and easing pressure on overstretched grid infrastructure.

The company advised Nigerian businesses to deploy renewable and hybrid solutions, including solar-plus-storage systems, fuel cells, and Battery Energy Storage Systems. These technologies would also enable firms to self-generate power, improve resilience, and reduce dependence on unreliable public supply.

“Energy-efficient hardware, AI-enabled analytics, and comprehensive energy management platforms are reshaping how Nigeria builds and operates AI infrastructure,” the company said. “These solutions reduce waste, deliver cost savings, and support long-term sustainability goals.”

Meanwhile, Ajibola Akindele, Country President of Schneider Electric West Africa, urged Nigeria to seize the opportunity to lead in responsible AI innovation. “Nigeria can become a continental leader in AI while setting an example for sustainable energy use,” Akindele said. “We are helping our partners deliver infrastructure that is reliable today and efficient for the future.”

He added that AI-ready, green infrastructure would allow Nigeria to expand its digital economy without sacrificing energy stability.

Schneider Electric insisted that Nigeria’s AI-driven future does not have to come at the cost of energy security. The company said Nigeria can accelerate digital and energy transitions with decentralised generation, edge computing, and advanced energy management.
