- The first 1.1GW offshore wind farm has been developed in Scotland
SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies have installed the first V164-10.0MW turbine at the 1.1GW Seagreen offshore wind farm in Scottish waters.
The joint venture project calling for an investment of GBP 3 billion (USD 3.96bn) is set to become Scotland’s biggest with the greatest depth offshore wind farm upon operation in 2023.
Having a total capacity of 1,075MW, Seagreen is being constructed 27km off the Angus coast in the Firth of Forth. Its 114 turbines will produce around 5000GWh of electricity to supply about 1.6 million homes. Seagreen will be the first globally to have a V164-10.0MW turbine. The machines will be mounted on three-legged jacket foundations.
SSE Renewables is responsible for the development and construction operations of the wind farm. The plant’s output will be sold through corporate power purchase agreements (CPPAs) awarded in competitive tenders.
