Digital innovation is taking centre stage in Nigeria’s energy sector. Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Ltd. (SEEPCO) has reaffirmed its commitment to technology-driven transformation.
At the 2025 NUJ-NAN Press Week Lecture and Symposium in Lagos, Mr Aveek Binkam Biswas, SEEPCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, highlighted the company’s role in shaping Nigeria’s energy future. His message stressed innovation and sustainability.
During the event, Biswas received an Award of Sponsorship Appreciation from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Chapel. He praised the organisers for successfully hosting the event themed “Transforming Energy: The Digital Evolution of Oil and Gas.” Consequently, he stressed that SEEPCO remains committed to advancing conversations on technology and sustainability in Nigeria’s energy industry.
SEEPCO has already launched several technology-driven platforms to support this transformation. These include a real-time incident reporting system, a Digital Unsafe Act and Unsafe Condition (UAUC) tool, a Safety Observation Reporting Tracking (SORT) system, and a streamlined e-Permit to Work (PTW) platform. Significantly, these tools improve transparency, enhance compliance, and ensure timely responses across operations.
Biswas explained that while SEEPCO is proud of its progress, the journey continues. Therefore, he emphasised the importance of collaboration between industry, media, and society to accelerate innovation and secure long-term sustainability.
He also recognised the media’s vital role in shaping narratives about Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. Accordingly, continued collaboration with stakeholders such as the NUJ-NAN Chapel will sustain dialogue and action for a more innovative energy system.
