Seplat Energy Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to driving Nigeria’s energy transformation through strategic acquisitions, governance excellence, and innovation. Seplat’s Chief Executive Officer, Roger Brown, stated this at the Nigerian International Energy Summit (NIES) in Abuja.
At a panel session on “Transformative Deals and Nigeria’s Upstream Future,” Brown highlighted the company’s exponential growth and alignment with Nigeria’s vision for energy development.
He emphasised that Seplat’s success builds on well-structured strategies, strong corporate governance, and a talented workforce. He credited the Nigerian government’s support as a key enabler in the company’s growth and expansion efforts.
“With these asset acquisitions coming through, it is a new dawn for Nigeria and its energy sector. Seplat Energy will play a dominant role in harnessing subsurface opportunities and driving transformation in the country,” Brown stated.

Seplat’s acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (now Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited—SEPNU) in December 2024 has positioned it as one of the largest oil and gas producers in Nigeria. This move aligns with Nigeria’s objectives of boosting oil and gas production, ensuring energy security, and fostering economic growth.
Beyond oil, Seplat Energy is leveraging its vast gas resources to support Nigeria’s electricity generation. Brown reiterated that natural gas will be a key driver of Nigeria’s energy transition, enabling industrial growth and economic diversification.
As international oil companies (IOCs) divest from certain assets, Brown emphasised that Seplat remains a trusted partner due to its governance structure and sustainability practices.
The CEO added, “We are bound by strict sustainability and governance standards as a publicly listed company, ensuring transparency in all operations. Our commitment to environmental responsibility gives regulators, investors, and stakeholders confidence in how we manage our assets.”
With its strategic vision, technological advancements, and strong governance framework, Seplat Energy is set to shape Nigeria’s energy landscape for years to come. The company’s role in oil, gas, and electricity generation positions it as a critical player in achieving national energy security and economic transformation.
