SERAP asks Buhari to probe sector
- Seeks answers to ₦11 trillion missing funds
- Recommends measures to tackle insecurity
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the electricity sector for allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds from 1999 to date.
The Deputy Director of SERAP, Oluwadare Kolawole in an address titled: “Little to No Progress: Stopping Grand Corruption and Impunity in Nigeria”, asked President Buhari to fulfil his promise to intensify the fight against corruption. He also asked the National Assembly to publish reports of power sector probes so as to allow actions from anti-corruption agencies and civil society advocacy groups.
Mr. Kolawole also, asked the World Bank President, Mr. David Malpass to release information regarding funding for the electricity sector in Nigeria. He also made recommendations on measures to tackle corruption in the sector. He asked President Buhari to undertake a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the power sector privatisation to publish the details of ownership of public stakes of 40 per cent in those entities. He also urged the president to ensure that government public resources are not used to subsidise private entities”.
