- Nearly 7,000 homes affected
Nearly 7,000 households in Sheffield and Dronfield were suddenly without electricity supply in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Consumers woke up to an unexpected power cut this morning. The utility company Northern Powergrid estimates that nearly 7,000 homes were affected in several areas of the cities. According to the statement, the power cut was due to an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment.
Northern Powergrid expects to restore power to the majority of customers within 90 minutes.
“There is an unexpected power cut affecting 6,938 properties in your area.” the statement on its social media page read. “For this type of power cut, we normally restore power to 90 per cent of our customers in about 90 minutes.”
“We currently estimate your power will be back on by 8.30 am.” In an update by the utility, residents in the S2 area will have electricity supply restored by 4 pm today.
