French energy giant EDF has formed a 50-50 joint venture, Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind, with Anglo-Dutch firm Shell to construct one of the most powerful wind farms in the United States off the coast of New Jersey.
The 1.5GW plant will supply power to 700,000 homes every year, according to EDF. Construction of the wind farm is set to commence in 2024. The wind farm will be located about 16 to 32km off the coast of New Jersey.
United States President Joe Biden has set a target of 30GW of offshore wind energy by 2030.
