Shell, Eneco Form Joint Venture for 1.4GW Wind Capacity

  • Shell Plc and Eneco bid jointly for a 1.4GW offshore wind farm
  • Their total output is expected to meet around 6% of the country’s electricity needs.

Shell Plc and Eneco, a Dutch utility, said they would bid jointly for each site of the 1.4GW Hollandse Kust West (HKW) offshore wind farm zone in Dutch waters.

Ecowende and SchakelWind, two joint ventures, will compete for sites VI and VII of the HKW zone. The wind farms will be constructed 53 kilometres off the coast of the Netherlands, west of IJmuiden, and will be operational in 2026. Their total output is expected to meet around 6% of its electricity needs.

The Ecowende JV’s mission is to start a movement to build offshore wind farms with a net positive environmental impact. SchakelWind, on the other hand, will strive for a net positive influence on the Dutch energy system. It will invest not just in Site VII but also in some other projects across the country with the help of enterprises.
