- Shell to install 50,000 EV street charging points by 2025.
- Shell will provide support for local authorities to install on-street charging points.
Royal Dutch Shell has announced that it plans to install 50,000 street electric vehicle charging points in the UK by 2025. The energy giant plans to deploy the charging stations through its recently acquired Ubitricity, which has the UK’s largest public EV charging network. Shell will also provide financing support for local authorities to install new Ubitricity on-street chargers in towns and cities across the UK at potentially zero cost.
Currently, over 60 per cent of households in cities and urban areas in the U.K. lack dedicated parking spaces. Therefore, increasing on-street charging is essential to acceleration the adoption of EVs in cities and urban areas in the U.K.
