Shine Your Eyes, But With What?

Shine your eyes; Big Brother Naija (BBN) show kickstarted over the weekend with lots of surprises, expectations, loyalty pledges, predictions, money to be spent and won.

The Big Brother Naija is a reality competition TV series that premieres annually, in which contestants live in an isolated house and compete for a large cash prize and other material prizes, striving to stay till the end of the show by avoiding being evicted from the house by viewers who vote for their favourite housemates.

So far, there have been five (5) seasons of this reality show which has got Nigerians stuck to their screens as they watch and follow the drama. This year, the sixth season of the show tagged ‘shine your eyes’ began on Saturday night (24th of June) and is set to air for ten weeks.

While ten weeks seem like a very short period for all the drama set to occur within the timeframe in Nigeria, one can only hope there would be a sufficient supply of electric power for Nigerians to shine their eyes while they vote their favourite.

It is a thing of pity that a nation that generates electricity and transmits power to neighbouring countries can hardly boast of a full day’s power supply without interruption. A World Bank report released in Q2 2021 stated that about 78 per cent of electricity consumers receive less than 12 hours of electricity supply.

Given the power deficit, it is no wonder that there were a series of twists and revelations that viewers seemed to have missed during the reunion of the previous season. Though speculation was around Kayode (the cameraman) not capturing the right moments, one could also tie it to the absence of electricity.

In all, Nigerians require stable electricity to shine their eyes for this year’s BBN show.
