- SIA Group partners with Neste for 1,000 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
- Neste will deliver SAF directly to Changi Airport, blending it with conventional jet fuel.
The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group partners with Neste to acquire 1,000 tonnes of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel, making it the first direct supply of SAF to airlines at Changi Airport. Neste will blend the SAF with conventional jet fuel and deliver it to Changi Airport in two batches.
This achievement follows Neste’s expansion of its Singapore refinery, now the world’s largest SAF production facility.
Derived from renewable waste and residue raw materials, Neste’s SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%. Alexander Kueper, VP of Renewable Aviation at Neste, praises SIA and Scoot as the first beneficiaries of their integrated supply capabilities.
He emphasised the significance of locally produced SAF for Changi Airport, supporting regional emissions reduction goals.
Lee Wen Fen, SIA’s Chief Sustainability Officer, deemed the agreement with Neste crucial for achieving their goal of incorporating 5% sustainable aviation fuel by 2030. Starting May 2024, corporate travellers, shippers, and freight forwarders can purchase SAF Book & Claim Units.
Each unit represents one tonne of SAF with associated carbon dioxide reduction benefits, bolstering the development of the nascent SAF industry.
The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials oversees these transactions, ensuring traceability and credibility. This initiative underscores the commitment to sustainable aviation practices, fostering collaboration between airlines and renewable fuel providers.
