As part of a 975 MW 24/7 renewable energy complex in India, steel and mining giant ArcelorMittal has bought Siemens Gamesa turbines for a 166 MW wind farm it plans to develop. The wind turbine manufacturer will deliver 46 units of its SG 3.6-145 units under the terms of the deal, which was placed by ArcelorMittal’s Indian subsidiary. According to Siemens Gamesa, the equipment will run a wind farm in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
ArcelorMittal’s steel facility in Hazira, Gujarat, will be supplied with the Kurnool wind farm’s potential output in the future. The steel and mining company will construct the facility as part of a massive network of solar and wind farms in the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh to reduce the carbon footprint of its operation. Siemens Gamesa will make the turbines locally and start deliveries in the second quarter of 2023.
The 989-MW facility’s owner is AM Green Energy Private Limited (AMGEPL), a local joint venture between ArcelorMittal and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Ltd (AM/NS India). Hyderabad-based Greenko Group expects to finish installing the capacity by the middle of 2024.
