  • Siemens Gamesa launches first recyclable onshore wind turbine blades.
  • The technology portrays circularity as Siemens Gamesa races fully recyclable turbines by 2040

Siemens Gamesa’s launch of the world’s first recyclable onshore wind turbines is a step towards building a sustainable and circular wind sector. The blades launched in September 2021 have now been installed as of July 2022 and are in operation on the Rwe Kaskasi project in Germany. The blades are available for commercial purchase.

The CEO of Siemens Gamesa, Jochen Eickholt, said that in tackling climate change, the launch of this unique project would advance sustainability. He attributed the product’s success to the immense tenacity and dedication of professionals on the team. He said that the recyclable blades for onshore projects were now available for commercial use to clients.

Recyclable solutions are essential in product development; this is reflected in the ambitious targets set by many offshore and onshore markets globally. Siemens Gamesa remains committed to its sustainability vision of producing fully recyclable turbines by 2040. These groundbreaking turbine blades can have composite materials recovered.

The composite materials are separated and recovered for other applications upon end-of-life by applying a mild-acidic solution instead of ending up in landfills.
