Kailahun town set for connection after 40 years
- President Bio approved the electrification project in July 2020
The town of Kailahun in the eastern province of Sierra Leone is set to be connected to the national grid. The move to electrify the town comes after forty years without electricity supply. The Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr. Eldred Taylor, commission the Kailahun Township Electrification Project in a ceremony that saw the attendance of dignitaries.
The administration of President Julius Bio approved the Kailahun Township Project in July 2020. The project involves installing high and low voltage poles, 35km of cables, transformers and low voltage panels. Mr. Taylor, who spoke at the ceremony, noted that the Sierra Leonian government exclusively funds the project.
The Town Head, Kailahun, Mandal Ndoleh, thanked the government for fulfilling its promises. He added that the town couldn’t be more pleased with the prospects of enjoying electricity supply after forty years.
