- CAAS and IATA will unveil the global sustainable aviation fuel registry.
- Platform to monitor emissions and meet global standards.
- All departing flights from Singapore to use sustainable fuel.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) announced a partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to create a global sustainable aviation fuel registry. The registry, set to launch in the first quarter of 2025, aims to boost sustainable fuel adoption in Singapore.
The platform will track and record emission reductions from using sustainable aviation fuels. CAAS stated it would feature an interoperable system for accounting and reporting, aligning with international standards such as the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
“This platform allows CAAS to account for the type and quantity of sustainable aviation fuel purchased, generate fuel credits, and allocate these credits to airlines and businesses,” the authority said.
The registry forms part of the Singapore Sustainable Air Hub Blueprint, which mandates the use of sustainable aviation fuel for flights departing from Singapore starting in 2026.
Han Kok Juan, director-general of CAAS, described the registry as a “critical enabler” for achieving Singapore’s 2026 sustainable aviation fuel target.
With input from various stakeholders, IATA is developing the registry to promote global sustainable aviation fuel use. “Government authorities, including CAAS, ensure the registry meets civil aviation requirements,” said CAAS.
The CAAS-IATA registry initiative follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed earlier this year. The MOU enhances cooperation to support aviation growth in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.
