Singapore intends to utilise vertical panels and floating solar plants to boost the adoption of clean energy. The land strapped country believes that these technologies will aid it in its carbon emissions reductions and serve as a model for further densely populated urban centres. Solar photovoltaic (PV) is the most viable clean energy option for Singapore; however, the country has limited land for large-scale farms.
Last month, Singapore inaugurated a 5MW offshore floating PV system on the Johor Strait. This is part of the country’s target of installing at least 2GW of solar power by 2030 – five times the current capacity – and halving its carbon emissions by 2050.
