State-owned hydropower producer SJVN has been awarded a contract to develop a 200MW solar PV plant in India. The company won the auction held by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA). SJVN, a joint venture of the Indian government and the Himachal Pradesh state government, proposed the lowest tariff of INR 3.11/kWh ($0.041/kWh) and will develop the plant on a build-own-operate (BOO) model.
BREDA will purchase the power from the plant under a 25-year power purchase agreement with SJVN. The plant is estimated to require an investment of INR 1,000 crore ($135 million). According to SJVN, these projects will help it achieve its vision of 5,000 MW by 2023, 12,000 MW by 2030, and 25,000 MW by 2040.
