Snowy Hydro Ltd Signs 200MW Purchase Deal With CWP

  • Snowy Hydro agrees to buy almost half of the CWP renewables output
  • The first power deliveries are expected in 2026
  • Snowy Hydro’s annual renewable power purchases will increase to 4.1 TWh

Snowy Hydro Ltd, an Australian power producer and retailer, has agreed to buy nearly half of the output from CWP Renewables’ 414 MW Uungula wind farm project in New South Wales. According to the federal government-owned power retailer, Snowy Hydro will purchase electricity from 200 MW of the planned plant’s capacity and receive renewable energy certificates for 15 years.

The Uungula wind farm, set to be built near Wellington, is estimated to power more than 200,000 houses yearly. The property has already received development permission and will begin construction later this year. The first power deliveries are expected in 2026.

Due to the power purchase agreement, Snowy Hydro’s annual renewable power purchases will increase to 4.1 TWh. In addition, the company had previously agreed to buy power from another CWP Renewables wind farm, the 244-MW Bango complex in New South Wales, which is expected to be operational in late 2022.

CWP Renewables now operates and owns 650 MW of renewable power plants in the National Electricity Market, with another 5 GW of wind, storage, and firming projects in the pipeline for the near-medium future.
