According to the local solar association ABSOLAR, solar has surpassed hydro as the second largest source of power in Brazil’s energy mix, with 23.9 GW of installed capacity, trailing hydro with 109.7 GW.

Since 2012, solar installations have brought in BRL 120.8 billion and $22.5 billion in investments, created more than 705,000 local jobs, and avoided the emission of 33.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, according to the association (CO2).
Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of ABSOLAR’s board of directors, believes that the solar sector could reach or even surpass one million jobs by the end of 2023.
