- Solar Planet plans to build a solar battery factory plant.
- The company believes that this will address some of teh challenges associated with using solar in Tanzania.
Solar Planet, a renewable energy company, plans to build a solar battery manufacturing plant in Tanzania, managing director Hamza Lema has said. Lema added that the manufacturing plant would help increase the reach of solar services and address some challenges associated with solar energy use. The company plans to build the plant in the Mwanza on teh southern shores of Lake Victoria.
Solar kit users currently have challenges with the operations of their solar kits as people have been utilising car batteries which can have a damaging effect on their solar equipment. However, solar Planet believes that the plant will increase solar adoption, especially in rural areas unconnected from teh grid. In Tanzania, solar energy provides about 65 per cent of the energy supply in rural areas compared to urban areas (3.4 per cent).
The company which provides solar kits recently rolled out special lights dubbed D-2 lamps to help fishers in the Lake Zone regions perform their activities better.
