Solar Power Deployed in Ondo Riverine Communities

  • NNPC/Chevron Nigeria Ltd Joint Venture (CNL) and other partners have deployed solar power in communities in Ondo State.
  • The communities would receive a 40 per cent tariff discount.

NNPC/Chevron Nigeria Ltd Joint Venture (CNL), alongside the Ilaje Rural Development Committee (IRDC) and Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), have deployed solar power in some riverine communities in Ondo state. A4 and T Power Solutions deployed solar mini-grid energy cabins in the communities.

The State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, represented by the Secretary, Ondo State Public Utility, Mrs Abike Ilawolle, commended the project sponsors adding that, “rural electrification is part of our administration’s agenda and we will ensure that rural dwellers, especially residents in the riverine areas have access to social amenities for life to be enjoyable to them, unlike their land counterparts.”

The electrified communities include Awoye and Odofado in Ilaje L.G.A. of the state. The project developer, A4 and T Power Solutions, stated that residents of the electrified communities would enjoy an uninterrupted power supply with a 40 per cent tariff discount. The Company’s managing director added,  “the token amount of money that was paid on their prepaid meters would generate funds that would be used to maintain and sustain the solar cabin grid.”
