Solar to Power Largest Italian Factory

  • ITT wants to invest US$2.5 million to construct a floating solar facility.
  • It will install about 3,000 solar PV panels.
  • The electricity generated will power Italy’s largest manufacturing facility.

A US-engineered critical components maker- ITT, is set to invest USD 2.5 million to construct a solar power lake at its biggest manufacturing facility in Italy’s Piedmont region.

The company announced over the weekend that it would install some 3,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels within its innovation centre in Barge to produce 1.1 million kWh of electricity per year. The installation’s output will cover around 30% of the technology complex’s power demand.

The floating solar facility is estimated to be about the size of four Olympic swimming pools and is planned to become operational by the end of 2022. The project aims to ramp up ITT’s sustainability programme to lower the carbon footprint of its operations. It is expected to help the US firm mitigate 372.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
