Solenova, the joint venture between the Italian oil company Eni and Angola’s Sonangol, has signed the final investment decision (FID) for its Caraculo solar photovoltaic project in Angola. The solar PV project will lead to the deployment of a 50MWp solar PV plant in the Namibe province.
According to Eni, the project will be implemented gradually, with the first phase of 25MWp. The project developer has already signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project’s first stage. Construction of the facility will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Angolan authorities are currently working to diversify the country’s electricity mix and develop electricity production and transmission infrastructure in the south of the country.
