  • Power restored to some affected areas
  • Fire destroys two transformers and other equipment

A massive fire outbreak at the Robertsham substation cut power to several households in the South of Johannesburg. According to City Power, two main transformers were destroyed in the incident. City Power has, however, commenced efforts to restore supply to the affected areas.

The Spokesperson for City Power Johannesburg, Isaac Mangena, stated that ”Two transformers that survived the fire were energised earlier today after passing all the tests.”

”By 1 pm, one feeder board was livened up to enable a gradual distribution of electricity to the residents,” Mangena said.

City Power stated that electricity supply was restored to 10 suburbs, including Robertsham, Crown Gardens, Ridgeway, Gold Reef City, Ormonde, Booysens Reserve, Ophirton, Southdale, Winchester, and Nasrec.

”We are hoping to switch on the outstanding suburbs by late afternoon if all goes according to plan,” Mangena added.

Aeroton, Ormonde Industrial, Robertsham Industrial, West Turffontein, and Chrisville suburbs are still without electricity.
