- DNG Energy makes fresh allegations of corruption
- Accuses Karpowership and a government official of corruption
DNG Energy, a failed bidder for the South African emergency power supply bids, have made fresh allegations against the successful bidder for the project, Turkish firm, Karpowership. DNG Energy had previously filed a lawsuit alleging the bid process was fraught with corruption and alleging an attempt to bribe Gwedebe Mantashe, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, during the bidding process.
In the fresh allegations of corruption, DNG Energy has alleged an attempt to bribe the company involving, Karpowership and a government official. In a supplementary affidavit, DNG Energy alleges that partners of Karpowership had approached the firm’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Aldworth Mbalati, seeking to bribe the company in exchange for ensuring DNG Energy wins a contract.
”It is clear that even at a rudimentary level that some sort of agreement was entered into between the fifth respondent,” Mbalati alleged. Mbalati alleged that Karpowerhship and its partners promised a contract ”in return for a stake in the fifth respondent, as was the proposal to DNG, which I declined.”
Karpowership’s and its local partners and Karpowership denied the fresh allegations.
