- Eskom upgrades to Stage 4 load shedding
- Losses one unit at Arnot Power Station
- To downgrade to Stage 2 load shedding on Friday
South African power utility Eskom began implementing Stage 4 load shedding from 1:00 pm today. The load shedding will continue until 05:00 am on Friday. Eskom, yesterday, announced it expects to continue Stage 2 load shedding until Saturday morning.
In a statement released today, Eskom said, “While Eskom regrets the escalation of in load shedding, it is necessary to ration the remaining emergency generation reserves, which have been utilised extensively this morning as we are not getting the reduction in demand as expected from the implementation of Stage 2 load shedding,”
Eskom explained that the failure of an additional seven units to return to service and a loss of a generation unit at Arnot Power Station today necessitated the upgrade to Stage 4 load shedding. The utility apologised urged for energy conservation from consumers.
“Eskom would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the implementation of load shedding and requests the public to reduce the usage of electricity to help us through the constraints.”
