Eskom Consulting with labour, CEO says
- Addresses Public Enterprises Committee
- Plans to avoid forceful retrenchment
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eskom Mr Andre de Ruyter, has told the Select Committee on Public Enterprises that, the state-owned electricity company is consulting with the labour unions on the unbundling process. While addressing the Select Committee, Mr Ruyter explained, the unbundling process while assuring that, the Management is doing all in its power to avoid a forceful retrenchment of Eskom employees. “We are avoiding Section 189 and are engaging and consulting with labour on the processes of restructuring”, Ruyter said.
The Committee expressed concerns about the unbundling of Eskom and noted its views on the process. The Committee is of the opinion that Eskom should remain state-owned. The unbundling process was announced in February 2019 and is expected to gulp R500 million in costs.
