SOUTH AFRICA: Eskom Issues Short Notice on Possible Load Shedding

  • Eskom warns of load shedding if further breakdowns occur

South African electric utility, Eskom has issued short notice on the possibility of load shedding following breakdowns at two generation units at the Arnot and Hendrina power station, which forced the shutdown of two power plants.

“Over the past 24 hours, Eskom teams returned a generation unit each at Camden, Kendal and Medupi power stations.”, the statement read.

“Over the same period, two generation units, one at Arnot and another at Hendrina, tripped while a unit at Arnot and Lethabo were forced to shut down,” Eskom stated.

Eskom urges the consumers to conserve electricity as the network is severely constrained and may require load shedding if further breakdowns occur.

“Eskom requests the public to continue using electricity sparingly and will communicate promptly should there be any significant changes to the power system,” Eskom said.
