- Eskom will begin implementing “Stage 1” load shedding.
- Eskom has seen improved generation capacity.
South African power utility Eskom has said that it will reduce its scheduled power cuts from 9 p.m. local time (1900 GMT). The company says this news is coming on the back of improved generation capacity.
The utility had been been implementing “Stage 2” power cuts which included shedding about 2,000MW from the national grid. Instead, the company says it will begin implementing “Stage 1”, which will shed 1,000MW.

Eskom stated, “while there has been an improvement in the generation capacity and a significant recovery in the emergency generation reserves, caution is still called for as this is not sufficient to suspend load-shedding (power cuts) at this point.”
