- Eskom announces stage 2 load shedding
- To begin today by 10 am
- Load shedding to continue until 10 pm on Sunday
Eskom has announced it will begin stage 2 load shedding today. In a statement released by the state utility company, the load shedding is necessitated by the lack of generation reserves due to high demand. This is also aggravated by the delay in return to service of generation units in Kusile, Tutuka, Duvha, Kendal and Koeberg power stations.
“The emergency generation reserves have been used extensively in the past days to avoid load shedding during the day. This has resulted in these being depleted, reducing available capacity. It is, therefore, necessary to implement load shedding continuously in order to replenish the emergency reserves”, the statement read.
Eskom added that capacity constraints would continue into the foreseeable future. “Capacity constraints will continue for the foreseeable future, and all South Africans are urged to reduce their use of electricity, particularly between 17:00 and 22:00, when the winter demand is the highest”, Eskom said.
The load shedding will commence at 10 am today and continue until 10 pm on Sunday.
