- The Agri-Worker Electrification Project aims to provide access to rural farmers
Farm workers in Western Cape have been connected to electricity. The workers were connected under the Agri-Worker Electrification Project, which commenced in 2016. The project aims to provide access to electricity to farmworkers in rural areas. A total of 1,156 direct connections were completed in the Breede Valley Municipal of Western Cape.
Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, MEC Anton Bredell said, “The project was a collaborative effort between the Department of Local Government in the Western Cape, Eskom, the Hex River Table Grape Association, and the Hex River Table Grape Association Agri-workers Association and the Breede Valley Municipality. The aim is to make electricity available directly to the farmworkers.”
