- City power concludes investigation
- The earthing wire was disconnected
Following the death of a newly married couple last week due to electrocution, City Power has concluded its investigation into the deaths. In a statement issued by City Power, the cause of the electrocution was illegal connection and meter tampering. The electricity connection to the couple’s resident was illegal, and the earthing wire was disconnected. In addition, the metering equipment on the property was also tampered with, the investigation revealed.
”We have also fixed their meter, and they promised to start buying their electricity,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena. However, the family’s electricity supply remains disconnected until such time the legal requirements for safe connection have been established”, the statement read. The family of the deceased admitted to illegal connection and meter tampering and have paid the R10,000 fine.
The couple Zaheer Sarang and Nabeela Khan wedded just ten days before their deaths in Crosby, Johannesburg. Unfortunately, Nabeela was electrocuted in the shower, and Zaheer, who tried to rescue her, died in the process.
