SOUTH AFRICA: SANEDI Asks Consumers to Conserve Electricit

The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) has asked electricity consumers to conserve energy during the winter. Energy Efficiency and Corporate Communications General Manager (GM) Barry Bredenkamp has called on consumers to promote efficient use of electricity this season to reduce the pressure on the national grid, given the generation constraints in the country.

”With many people still working from home, there are now many new individual offices to be warmed for comfort, rather than traditional shared offices which feature optimised central heating systems”, Bredenkamp said. Bredenkamp also discouraged the all-day use of electric heaters during the season because of the health and consumption implications.

”These simple measures can help save energy through the remaining half of winter and beyond. Improving your daily habits and thinking carefully about what appliances you use, when and how can make a difference and help with demand-side management in South Africa”, Bredenkamp added.
