Due to delays in the return to service of at least nine generating units, the state-owned power company Eskom has stated that load shedding will be increased to higher stages this afternoon (Tuesday). Starting at 4 p.m. today afternoon and lasting until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, there will be stage 6 load shedding. Stage 4 will then go into effect and last till 4 o’clock.
The start of Stage 6 will then resume with a drop to Stage 3 starting at 5 a.m. on Thursday.
The existing capacity limitations were a result of the delays in getting a unit back into service at the power plants Arnot, Camden, Duvha, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Matimba, Matla, and Tutuka.
To guarantee that producing units are put back into service as soon as possible, the crew is working around the clock.
“We thank those South Africans who do heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently in helping to alleviate the pressure on the power system, as this is assisting in avoiding higher stages of load shedding,” stated Eskom.
