Southwest Public Power Agency Inc (SPPA) has revealed that it has engaged in a power contract to receive power from 300 MW of solar and 600 MWh of battery storage capacity. This figure depicts the largest renewable power purchase since the agency started operating.
SPPA entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) alongside a joint venture between BrightNight and Cordelio Power which owns the Box Canyon project in Pinal County, Arizona. 21 of SPPA’s constituent members will receive the electricity in contract, estimating that Box Canyon will meet about one-third of its peak capacity needs. It is estimated that the company will also meet 19% to 21% of its energy needs.
The project has recently reached all major permitting milestones and is seen to start.
