Steelmaker, SSAB Italy Goes Fossil-Free with Solar Panels

  • SSAB achieves 100% fossil-free status in Italy with new solar panels.
  • Solar installation covers all energy needs at SSAB Ghedi Steel Service Centre.

Swedish steelmaker SSAB’s Italian operations are now fully powered by rooftop solar panels. These panels cover all energy needs at the SSAB Ghedi Steel Service Centre in Ghedi.

Installed recently, the solar panels will generate around 830 MWh annually. Half this energy will support the centre’s production activities, office functions, and electric vehicle charging. The remaining power will be fed into the local grid.

The Solnet Group implemented the 756-kWp solar project with SSAB Swedish Steel SpA in Italy. This move aligns with SSAB’s goal of offering fossil-free steel by 2026. SSAB aims for zero carbon dioxide emissions from its operations by around 2030, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
