Norwegian renewables company Statkraft has been awarded public land in Chile to develop, build and run a wind-plus-storage project with over 400MW capacity.
The renewables company won over 2,610 hectares (6,449.5 acres) in an auction organised by the Chilean Ministry of National Assets. Statkraft estimates it will invest around USD 500 million (EUR 429.9m) in the project.
The wind farm and the energy storage facility are supposed to enter into operation by 2030, but the developer noted it expends to complete the project several years earlier. So the concession was awarded for 40 years.
The ministry offered sites in Chile’s northern region of Antofagasta. According to the press release from Statkraft Chile, the firm will build the wind complex about 81 km (50.3miles) from the city of Taltal.
