Sterling and Wilson Solar has commissioned a 25-MW solar power plant in Oman. The project is Sterling and Wilson’s second project in the Gulf nation. The company in June last year commissioned its first, a125-MW Amin Solar Project. This was Oman’s first renewables-based independent power project.
The just commissioned 25-MW plant is sited on 50-hectare within Sohar Freezone. The plant will cut carbon emissions by 25,000 tonnes yearly.Oman is looking to increase its renewable energy production even as there is a a rise in domestic electricity demand with increasing urbanisation. The country is aiming to generate 30 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030 according to Bikesh Ogra, Director and Global CEO, Sterling and Wilson Solar Ltd.
Sterling and Wilson Solar has a total solar energy capacity of 10.6 GWp (some still under construction) across the globe. The company also boastsof the world’s largest single-site solar power plant, the 1,177 MWp Solar PV plant in Abu Dhabi.
