Electricity consumers in the Northern state of Ed Debba have protested the sudden increase in electricity tariffs, taking to the streets in an organised sit-in.

Member, Resistance Committees Coordination, Abde Ali Hussein, speaking on the development, stated that “the authorities in the state raised the electricity tariffs without any justification. Farmers, in particular, are negatively affected,”

“They will only open the road again when the decision to increase the electricity bills is cancelled,” Hussein added.

In January last year, the Federal Ministry of Finance increased electricity tariffs by almost 500%.
