  • Lewis Li emphasized Sungrow’s dedication to collaborating with SSE and maximizing project profitability through the provision of cutting-edge products and services.

Sungrow, a leading global supplier of inverter and energy storage system solutions, has announced that it has secured a contract to provide its liquid-cooled energy storage system (ESS), known as the PowerTitan, for a 150MW/300MWh project in Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. This project aims to enhance overall grid stability and support the country’s transition towards renewable energy. The project, situated at the former Ferrybridge coal power station, is part of SSE Solar and Battery’s expanding portfolio of projects across the UK. Construction is scheduled to commence in May 2023, with the grid connection confirmed for June 2024 and operations expected to begin by October 2024.

Sungrow will supply its advanced liquid-cooled ESS PowerTitan for this project, leveraging the company’s expertise in power electronics, electrochemistry, and grid-forming technologies. Designed specifically for utility-scale energy storage requirements, the PowerTitan incorporates innovative liquid-cooled thermal management and AI monitoring of battery cells to ensure system safety and longevity. Additionally, the DC-DC controller allows for individual charging and discharging of battery racks, optimizing overall system performance.

The implementation of the PowerTitan will enable the project to achieve a favourable return on investment through peak shaving, a strategy that involves charging the batteries during periods of low electricity rates and discharging them during expensive peak demand periods. Richard Cave-Bigley, SSE Solar and Battery Director expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating that the development of clean, low-carbon energy on the site of a former coal-powered station showcases significant progress in this field. He also mentioned a robust project pipeline for their business.

President of Sungrow Europe, Lewis Li, conveyed his pride in supplying the PowerTitan for this significant project. He emphasized Sungrow’s dedication to collaborating with SSE and maximizing project profitability through the provision of cutting-edge products and services.
