- Electrolux AB has revealed its plans to deploy a total of 4.5 MW of solar panels at the company’s factory in Egypt.
Electrolux AB, a Swedish home appliance manufacturer, has revealed its plans to deploy a total of 4.5 MW of solar panels at the company’s factory in Egypt. The mega solar power will be used for powering the process of washing machines, refrigerators and stoves.
SolarizEgypt, a Cairo-based solar company, will co-install the solar systems.
The projected capacity will be installed in two phases, with the first phase including the installation of 1.5 MW. The Delta factory, which makes refrigerators and washing machines, will have a 1 MW solar system installed. The plant sits on a land area of 11,850 square metres with an expected generation capacity of 1,680 MWh of clean power per year and offsets 1,136 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
A further 0.5 MW will be installed in the stove factory on an area of 6,500 square metres.
In the second phase, 3 MW of solar capacity will be deployed to support Electrolux’s goal of achieving net zero emissions at its factories and sites by 2030.
“Despite the initial high costs of investing in the solar power plants, the government is projected to subsidise it in the future, and it will reduce the company’s consumption by around 17%,” said Electrolux Egypt’s chief executive Maysam El Hennawy.
