Swedish Start-up Targets 200 MW of Rooftop Solar Installations

  • AB sets target to deploy 200 MW of rooftop solar arrays around the nation.
  • The company is currently negotiating a rooftop lease with an option on 50,000 square meters of space.

With an immediate concentration on Skane County in the South, Swedish startup Solar Power Accelerator AB has set a target to deploy 200 MW of rooftop solar arrays around the nation.

The business rents out vacant roof space from owners of commercial and industrial properties in order to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This business model is called Build-Own-Operate. It secures contracts for the sale of solar panels, raises money, and finances the expansion of the micro-production of extra electricity generated by rooftop solar panels.

Before expanding worldwide to certain regions “with similar dysfunctionality and demand flexibility in the energy infrastructure,” Solar Power Accelerator plans to start in South Sweden and eventually replicate its service model there.

The company is currently negotiating a rooftop lease with an option on 50,000 square meters of space. In addition, it said that it is working closely with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor RSA to develop the first pilot plant in South Sweden.
