ISO says system collapses has declined
- The report says the collapses recorded are the lowest in 12 years.
- The sector has recorded only 1 system collapse in 2021
The Independent System Operator (ISO) has reported that system collapses have declined in the past 12 years. The sector recorded a total of 259 cases of full or partial collapses between 2009 and 2021. In 2020, the sector recorded only 4 system collapses.
The report shows,103 total and partial system collapses were recorded from 2014 to 2021. In 2019 alone, the sector recorded a total of 10 such incidences. Despite expectations due to the COVID 19 pandemic and resulting lockdown, the sector saw a 60% reduction in system collapses with only 4 recorded incidents.
The acting Managing Director (MD) of TCN, Engr Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has assured Nigerians of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) efforts in working to maintain grid integrity. “TCN is optimizing its available resources to better serve the DisCos and the GenCos through prompt maintenance of the existing grid network while applying best practices in completing ongoing low hanging fruits projects to improve the overall grid capacity,” he said.
