The government of Tanzania has announced plans to produce 200MW of power from geothermal energy by 2025. According to the Energy Permanent Secretary, Engr Felchesmi Mramba, the country has identified 52 sites that could generate geothermal power.
These sites, he stated are spread across the regions of Mbeya, Arusha, Dodoma, Iringa, Coast, Kilimanjaro, Kagera, Katavi, Shinyanga, Morogoro, Mwara, Manyara, Rukwa, Singida, Songwe and Tanga.
Mramba made the statement during his tour to inspect geothermal energy sources at Kiejo-Mbaka and Ngozi in the Mbeya region.
“Generally, the government intends to inject into the national grid a total of 1100MW produced from the renewable energy such as geothermal, solar and wind, before 2025,” Engr Mramba said.
