- Installation of transformers at the JHNPP begins
- Tanzanian officials conduct a site visit
The construction of the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project (JHNPP) has recorded another milestone, with the installation of 27 transformers set to begin. The Resident Engineer on the project, John Mageni, made this known during a site visit from Tanzanian government officials.
Engr. Mageni also noted the ongoing works at the project site, including the foundation work for the construction of the Switchyard where the electricity produced at the JNHPP will be connected to the national grid, the construction of the main dam, which has a total length of 1,025 metres and the height of 131 metres, construction of permanent bridge inside Rufiji River, and the construction of three power waterways.
Furthermore, the Chinese contractor, Dongfang Electric Corporation, has begun manufacturing and installing nine electromechanical equipment, with a capacity of 235MW each. ”The work of making and installing these electromechanical equipment, which include hydro-turbines, generators, excitation systems; and Main Inlet Valves has started and is continuing well,” Mageni said.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Services Management, Dr Lauren Ndumbaro, note that the delegation aimed to know the project’s status and update the public on the status of government strategic projects.
