Tanzania Energy Ministry, Dr Medard Kalemani has launched Phase 3, Second Round of the Rural Energy Agency (REA) rural electrification project. The project seeks to provide electricity access to all rural areas across the country. This phase of the project will see the electrification of all villages in the Southern Highland Zone Region of Rukwa by 2022.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, “At least 86 per cent of the villages are now electrified, making the country excel on the African continent with its largest population being able to access reliable and affordable power supply. We are very optimistic that by next year, all villages countrywide will be connected with power by 100 per cent.”
Kalemani also urged residents of beneficial villages to prepare to be connected and also cooperate with the contractors.
