- Kigoma and Katavi to be connected to the grid
- ETDCO to construct 776 kilometres transmission lines
Tanzania’s Kigoma and Katavi regions are set to be connected to the national grid network. The General Manager of the Electrical Transmission and Distribution Construction Service Provider (ETDCO) Maclean Mbonile, has stated that the regions will be connected to the national grid network by the end of 2022.
The ETDCO plans to construct 776 kilometres of transmission lines to connect the two regions in Western Tanzania. These projects form part of the 15 transmission and distribution projects worth TSh151.48 billion currently being implemented by the electric utility.
“Transmission is from Tabora to Mpanda and Tabora to Kigoma with 383 kilometres and 393 kilometres respectively. The total value of these projects is Sh15.9 billion,” Mbonile said.
“We facilitated the construction of two ways power project to the Mwalimu Nyerere Hydroelectric Power dam in Rufiji which was 254 kilometres from Gongo la Mboto, Dar es Salaam and 54 kilometres from Morogoro worth Sh17.8 billion,” Mbonile added.
