Technical issues at TANESCO to blame
- Residents queue for hours to purchase tokens

The electricity token vending system in Tanzania is experiencing downtime. Residents of some cities in Tanzania have had to join long queues to purchase electricity tokens. Tanzania’s Energy Ministry says the downtime is caused by a technical glitch in the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO).
The Energy Minister Medard Kalemani, yesterday, suspended the IT and Business Services Manager, Mr. Lonus Feruzi over the issue. Mr. Kalemani threatened the Managing Director of TANESCO, Tito Mwinuka with immediate resignation if, the issue remains unresolved by the close of business on Wednesday.
Residents have had to join long queues to purchase electricity tokens. Some vending centers are threatening to close shop due to an inability to handle the long queues and frustrated residents. As of the close of business on Wednesday, the technical glitch remained unresolved.
